I am a first year student in the Bachelor of Arts program at Thompson Rivers University (TRU). I currently have no declared minor or major, and only take classes that are of interest to me in hopes of finding some inspiration for my future. My interests in relation to learning have, for as long as I can remember, been about the past. From a young age I began to grow interested in the exploits of ancient peoples and civilizations, and by the age of eight I would regularly read my grandmother’s National Geographic magazines, with a particular interest in Egyptians and Mayans. My grandmother later purchased a subscription to these magazines for me, and this regular influence of interesting information from the past is a leading factor for why I wish to continue my learning in this field. While ancient civilizations are very interesting to me I also enjoy learning about more recent, written history as well. I have always been particularly interested in European and Renaissance history and the ideas of philosophers. I see looking at history as a good way to learn about the nature of people, and I consider learning about our past actions as integral in pushing forward as a society, as many lessons exist in the things we have done. My interest in history and philosophy has helped me in understanding the way people think and act, and this knowledge has been very useful for me in my life.
In my free time I am interested in playing and watching sports, particularly soccer, which I have played since the age of six. I also play and watch video games regularly, and have played several video games at a very high level of competition.
